I lost my mother and my grandmother to COPD, because they just could not quit, even when connected to oxygen tanks. You would think that would be enough for me to stop, or to never start, but it wasn’t. None of the scare tactics worked on me, not the wrinkles on my lip, not when my teeth and gums were damaged, not when I mourned. I tried everything to quit - I just could never get past those 3 days, or 3 weeks, or 3 months.
When I was hypnotized, something happened. I felt a connection with some deeper part of myself that knew what I truly wanted - which was to be free from the smoking habit, regardless of the small amount of pleasure I sometimes felt. I have never met a person who could not do this.
