Welcome to Dropping In to Power, a podcast devoted to empowering women who surf (or dream of surfing) by sharing our personal stories of commitment, courage, frustration, epiphany, and transformation.

Whether you are a newbie, soul surfer or a seasoned pro, our stories can collectively lift each other, change our world in the lineup, in our own heads and hearts, and out of the water.

My story: In 2001, at the age of 36, in the midst of a depression, a divorce, and a death in the family, I began surfing the freezing waters of Humboldt County in Northern California. The call was both inexplicable and undeniable, and EVERYTHING about my life changed forever. Twenty years later, I am still at it! It has been as challenging as tsunami storm surge and as glorious as perfectly lined up peeling walls. You know, like life!

Dropping In, the Movie: One of the biggest breakthroughs I had with surfing was finding my voice as a writer. I had struggled for years and thousands of pages and always felt like I was paddling just behind, just ahead, or missing it altogether. Surfing taught me presence and perseverance and self-trust so that one day it was as if I could only hear myself. Just as I know when it is my wave, I know when it is my voice. One day, in the shower, I had a flash from the muse, ran to my computer without drying off (don’t mess with the muse!), and wrote the opening scene to a MOVIE. Many rewrites later, with the imprint of my own story and a lot of poetic license, that movie is coming to life. DROPPING IN is about the inner and outer journey of a woman searching for her courage, her voice, her very soul, in the thundering surf of the Pacific Northwest. The movie is being produced by Susan Cartsonis and Resonate Entertainment.

LOGLINE: A woman tries to run from her imploding marriage and billowing self-doubt into the gentle arms of the ocean, chasing a fantasy she has seen in movies. Instead, nature gives her a royal ass-kicking, and she is forced to face all the parts of herself she abandoned, plus root out some new ones, to find her footing on both land and sea.

Dropping In to Power, the podcast, is born: My intention with the movie is to lift and inspire women, to help them feel heard, seen, and cheered for! But movies can take time, and I am ready for some lifting now! I wanted to create an immediate, accessible platform to lift and inspire women surfers (and dreamers) now, for us to feel heard and seen, and to build our community. So the podcast was born, one of the few surf podcasts for women! Thank you for listening, and I can’t wait to hear YOUR story!
